Victor de Bie

Trained as a fashion designer, his work often relates to fashion. His formative background reveals itself most apparently through the many invented constituent parts in his works. The long drawn-out figurines with their characteristic ‘sunken faces’ also find their origin in fashion.

His artistic signature stands out by the distinctive use of bright colours and triangular shapes.

Victor’s work is much inspired by the Roman Catholic culture of his originally Belgian family, including painters like Ernest and Paul Wante, who created many religious works in churches and cathedrals in the Flanders area. Also the family residence in Antwerp as well as the parental home in Haren, Groningen, both filled with souvenirs and family portraits, are clearly beloved subject matters.
